Sekiro Guide: How to Beat Corrupted Monk (2024)

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twiceis a game that basically consists of a series of increasingly tougher boss fights, with players going against a wide variety of mini-bosses as well as full-scale baddies that serve as the game's actual bosses.Sekiro bosses come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all of them will give players a run for their money. And this includes the Corrupted Monk, whoSekiro players encounter about halfway through the game.

There are a variety of strategies players can use to defeat the Corrupted Monk, but we found this one to be the most effective.

Preparing for the Corrupted Monk

BeforeSekiro players even need to worry about the fight with the Corrupted Monk, they need to prepare themselves for the battle. This means grinding for some basic items, like Pellets that can heal some of the player's health overtime, as well as the various consumables that can boost the player's attack power and the like. Snap seeds are also effective against the Corrupted Monk, so bring those along if possible. Assign these items to the quick slots before heading out to the fight.

As for which ProstheticSekiro players should have equipped, they will definitely want to have the Firecracker Prosthetic, as it will be the most useful by far. They will also want Mortal Draw equipped, which is the special Combat Art that players can unlock by finding the Mortal Blade.

Where is the Corrupted Monk

Once players are ready to battle the Corrupted Monk, the next step is finding his location. From the Ashina Depths - Water Mill Sculptor's Idol save point, head forward through the narrow tunnel. It will open up into a larger cave area, but just stick to the path and go across the bridge. Walk up the hill and use the grappling hook to get on top of a thick tree. Jump from this tree to the ledge and hang a left to go up the stairs. This leads to an arena-like area where the Corrupted Monk will materialize.

How to Beat Corrupted Monk

As with any boss fight inSekiro, the Corrupted Monk boss fight is no joke, and the battle is sure to be tough. However, with a little practice and the aforementioned items equipped, the Corrupted Monk boss fight should be a lot easier forSekiro players to beat.

The trick with the Corrupted Monk is to let it go through his cycle of attacks, which usually consists of about three slashes at the player. There will then be a small opening where players can use the Firecracker to stun him, and then lay into him with attacks of their own. Mortal Draw, the Combat Art gained from the Mortal Blade (or purchased for 1,200 sen from the merchant at Ashina Castle - Old Grave), does a lot of damage, as do snap seeds, as previously mentioned.

Most all of the Corrupted Monk's attacks can be blocked, but we recommend players dodge them instead and generally keep their distance. If they're patient, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice players should be able to beat Corrupted Monk without too much difficulty using the Fireracker and dodging strategy.

Second Corrupted Monk Boss Fight

Sekiro Guide: How to Beat Corrupted Monk (1)

Once players defeat the Corrupted Monk the first time, they will be given his Memory item that they can use at a Sculptor's Idol to increase their attack power and damage output. Later on in the game, however, they will have to fight Corrupted Monk again (depending on their choices - it's possible the boss will never appear for the second encounter), this time in the bridge battle that was actually revealed prior to the game's launch.

This time the Corrupted Monk boss fight is a three-phase battle, but there is a way to cheese it to make it much easier. Prepare for the fight the same as before, and take note that this time the battle takes place at Fountainhead Palace. For the first phase of the fight, the Corrupted Monk will take numerous swipes at the character, but if these are parried successfully, it will lead him wide open to attack. Once players have the timing down to parry the Corrupted Monk, the first phase becomes much easier.

After the first deathblow, immediately retreat to a tree and wait for the Corrupted Monk to stop selling the previous deathblow. The boss is left wide open to an aerial deathblow, immediately removing his second health bar.

For the third and final phase of the second Corrupted Monk boss fight, just spam the Firecracker to stun and lay in with attacks. If done correctly, the Corrupted Monk should barely be able to get any attacks in, and players should be able to remove his third health bar with minimal difficulty. Just be prepared to dodge or block as appropriate in case the rhythm is lost.

After the Corrupted Monk is defeated, players will unlock yet another Sekiro trophy/achievement for their troubles.
